Climate Camp 2009 Part IV

fotdmike | September 19, 2009

It remains to be seen whether this new-style policing was a one-off occurrence, specific to the Climate Camp and Camp-related protests, or if it will be adopted for other protests too.
Concluding the present series of observations on the 2009 Climate Camp at Blackheath, London, 26th August to 2nd September
“Cops on site!”
Such was the cry that [...]

Climate Camp 2009 Part III

Whatever happened to our cherished Police State dammit? Carry on like this and we won’t have anything to complain about.

Although Tuesday (1st September) was being generally regarded as the principal day of action it wasn’t really a case of there [...]

Climate Camp 2009 Part II

fotdmike | September 5, 2009

Climate Camp welcomes sincere enquirers. Folk that genuinely want to learn about the issues involved, to understand them, and to play their part in actually doing something positive instead of just disparaging those who care enough to make the effort.

Climate Camp 2009 Part I

fotdmike | September 5, 2009

The feature that made this event unique for me though was the marked absence of police, in distinct contrast to the previous Camps at Drax, Heathrow, and Kingsnorth.

This year’s Climate Camp has to have been a totally unique event in the history of the Camp for Climate Action.
Running from 26th August to 2nd September, it [...]

Everyone’s getting in on the act

fotdmike | September 4, 2009

Open letters to the police seem to be the thing to be doing nowadays. Last month there was the “Open letter to the Met” from the Camp for Climate Action.
Now, with the arms trade protests in London literally just a few days away, we have another open letter to the police from Disarm DSEi.

We Will [...]

London here we come!

fotdmike | August 23, 2009

This year’s Climate Camp is to be “somewhere in London”, running from 26th August through to 2nd September.
As for the precise location, well, campers are as much in the dark as anyone else. Unlike previous years when the location of the site had been announced some weeks beforehand on the Climate Camp website.
But this year [...]

The Climate Camp legal team have now released a report, “Demonstrating Respect for Rights?”, on the policing of the Climate Camp in the City on 1 April 2009.

Welcome to TawNews!

"TaW" = "Tilting at Windmills" so "TawNews" represents the newsy-type area of TaW. To explain...

Having become thoroughly disgusted by the bias, spin, and blatant non-reporting of certain types of events on the part of the mainstream media we find ourselves having much greater confidence in the independent, alternative, and "citizen journalist" news sources.
TawNews is our effort toward promoting those sources through links, dynamic feeds, and the occasional reproduction of selected content.
As our own contribution, in some small measure, we also periodically post reportage of our own.
That said, we freely admit to having our own bias... in a direction markedly different to that of the mainstream media!

[P.S. "We", in all instances, is "fotdmike" and a small select bunch of friends!]
